For my same Intro to Graphic Design course, we got to design a pair of posters for a Shakespearean play of our choice. I had just read "Midsummer Night's Dream" with my girls, and so it was fresh in my mind; an obvious choice.
Just like our other projects, we had a process book each week where we compiled research, sketches, and drafts.
The really fun part began when we were told to create "visual experiments." I did a few things with cut paper and scanned scribbles, but my favorite thing was messing around with a pile of embroidery floss. I thought the "tangled threads" would well represent the "tangled lovers" from the play. I homeschool, and so we typically just have lots of craft items on hand, and my girls love making friendship bracelets and cross-stitching. The bag of floss was right there. It was basically fated.
I learned a ton doing this project, and it was a lot of fun, to boot!
